On-Screen Translator
Last updated: October 9, 2026
On-Screen Translator (“the app”) reads the text on your screen while you use other apps — games, comics, social media — and shows a translation in a Picture-in-Picture window. This policy explains what the app handles, where it stays, and what is shared with the service providers the app uses. It takes effect on October 9, 2026.
At a glance
- Your screen, the text read from it, and its translations never leave your device and are never saved to storage.
- No account, no sign-in, and no server of ours — we never ask for your name, email, or phone number.
- Google AdMob shows an ad before a translation starts, and Firebase Crashlytics sends crash reports. Personalized ads are shown only if you allow tracking.
1. Screen capture, text recognition, and translation
- The app captures the screen only during a session you start through the iOS screen sharing picker. While it runs, the system recording indicator is shown, and you can stop it at any time by tapping the indicator. The app never starts capturing on its own.
- Text is recognized on the device with Apple’s Vision framework and translated on the device with Apple’s Translation framework. Translation language packs are downloaded and managed by iOS.
- Screen images, recognized text, and translations are processed only in memory. They are never sent off the device — not to us, not to any service provider — and never written to storage. Recent translations are kept in memory only and disappear when the app is closed.
2. Stored only on your device
- Settings such as your translation languages and display options.
- A copy of your purchase state(whether you bought “Remove Ads”) so ads stay off before the App Store responds.
These are kept in the app’s on-device settings (UserDefaults) and are deleted when you delete the app.
3. Information collected by service providers
Advertising (Google AdMob)
- When: a full-screen ad may appear when you tap to start a translation. If you bought “Remove Ads,” no ads are requested.
- What: device identifiers and device information, the advertising identifier (IDFA) — only if you allow tracking in Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt — approximate location inferred from your IP address, ad interaction data (impressions and clicks), and diagnostics, as described in Google’s policies.
- Why: to show ads that keep the app free and to measure them. If you don’t allow tracking, you see non-personalized ads, and every feature still works.
- In the European Economic Area and the UK, your consent for ads is asked through Google’s User Messaging Platform before ads are requested.
Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics)
- What: when the app crashes, a crash report (stack trace), device model, OS version, app version, and a random identifier for this installation. Only release builds send reports.
- Why: to find and fix crashes.
- Never sent: screen images, recognized text, or translations.
Purchases
“Remove Ads” is a one-time in-app purchase processed by Apple. We never receive your payment details; the app checks your purchase through the App Store on your device.
4. Permissions
- Screen sharing: granted per session through the iOS picker, as described in section 1.
- App Tracking Transparency: used only for personalized ads, as described above.
5. Service providers
We do not sell your information. The app uses these providers:
- Google LLC (USA) — Google AdMob, Google User Messaging Platform, and Firebase Crashlytics. See the Google Privacy Policy, how Google uses information from partner apps, and Privacy and Security in Firebase.
- Apple Inc. (USA) — in-app purchases.
6. Retention
- Screen images, recognized text, translations: not retained — held in memory only while the app is running.
- Crash reports: deleted automatically after 90 days.
- Advertising data: per Google’s retention policies.
- On-device settings: until you delete the app.
7. Your choices
- Stop a session at any time by tapping the system recording indicator or from the app.
- Change tracking permission at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Buy “Remove Ads” to stop ad requests.
- Delete the app to remove everything stored on your device.
8. Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their information. If we learn that we have, we will delete it promptly.
